Image of the Month - December 2020
This swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT) image demonstrates vitreous cells in a patient with acute posterior vitreous detachment and peripheral retinal tear. The vitreous cell on OCT is analogous to the Shafer sign (tobacco dust) in the anterior vitreous seen on slit lamp exam and highly predictive of a retinal tear and should alert the physician of the need for a thorough examination.
