Dr. Brown is a native of Upstate New York, born and raised in Rochester. He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics at Middlebury College in Vermont, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He then moved to Philadelphia to attend medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. While in medical school he was awarded a scholarship to complete some of his studies at the University of Nagoya in Japan. It was in Japan that he was exposed to and became interested in Vitreoretinal Surgery. Dr. Brown completed his medical internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. He received numerous awards for excellence in patient care. Dr. Brown completed his surgical retina fellowship at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit.
Dr. Brown is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of multiple professional societies including the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the New York State Medical Society. He has authored many peer reviewed papers and book chapters and given presentations at national meetings on retinal disease. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University where he helps to educate and mentor medical students and residents.
After crisscrossing the country with his wife seeking his education. Dr. Brown decided to relocate back home in Upstate New York and joined Retina-Vitreous Surgeons of Central New York in 2010. Dr. Brown loves to provide care for his patients. He has an active family life, and enjoys outdoor sports including biking, kayaking, skiing and hiking.
